The Pacific Pilotage Authority has absolute faith that oil tankers will be able to navigate the Douglas Channel with ease.
“It’s totally possible. I know it can be done here,” Kevin Obermeyer, president and CEO of the national authority told city councillors over lunch last week.
He said the chance of a potential oil spill here in the future is nil. “There should never be an incident,” he said, adding that the level of safety associated with an oil tanker is very reassuring.
