Safety

Enbridge is committed to operating to the highest industry standards for marine safety and environmental protection.

  • Northern Gateway staff will be on-site 24/7 to control and monitor terminal operations
  • Only vessels that are modern, independently certified and double-hulled will be permitted to access the Northern Gateway Terminal
  • Experienced certified marine pilots with knowledge of local waters will board vessels at designated locations in order to provide guidance to ship command
  • Vessels will be tethered to super-tugs to ensure that, in the unlikely event of a loss of power or steerage, all vessels can navigate safely
  • First response equipment and personnel will be located at the terminal, supplemented by additional first response capabilities located strategically at other locations along the route
